What is Credit Card Stamp Duty?

Credit card Stamp duty (€30) is a tax charged by the Government on cards issued by financial institutions in the Republic of Ireland each year and is applied to all credit cards held by residents in the Republic of Ireland.

The duty is payable on 1st April for the preceding year.

For example the Stamp Duty applied to credit card accounts on 1st April 2017 covers the tax period 2 April 2016 to 1 April 2017.
