What should I do if my iPhone or iPad is lost or stolen?

With Apple Pay, you authorise each purchase with Face ID on iPhone X or Touch ID on any IPhone 6 and above or your passcode. These features help prevent other people from using Apple Pay on your iPhone or iPad.

If your iPhone or iPad is lost or stolen

There are four key steps we recommend you take if your phone has been lost or stolen. Firstly, using an app like Find my iPhone can help track down the location of your phone quickly. You can play a loud tone, send alerts or wipe your phone completely.

We then advise you to let us know as quickly as you can, so we can suspend your Mobile Banking App.

You’ll still be able to manage your money via Online Banking.

After you’ve let us know, let your network provider know. They can then block your SIM so the phone can’t be used.

Finally, if you believe it’s been stolen, contact the police and request a crime reference number to help you claim with your insurance company.

You can go to icloud.com/find or call our dedicated centre. This means that no further transactions can take place using Apple Pay, but you will still be able to use your debit cards and credit cards as usual in shops, online and at cash machines.

Can Apple Pay be used if I've lost my phone?

If you see that 'Find My iPhone' is turned on, you can also help to keep your data secure:

  • Turn on 'Lost Mode' to lock your device and to suspend Apple Pay
  • Erase your device remotely to prevent anyone else from getting access to the data on your missing device and to remove your cards

You can also call our dedicated Apple Pay Support Team to suspend or remove your cards from Apple Pay.

Apple Pay is a secure way to pay, every transaction on your iPhone or iPad requires you to authenticate with Face ID on iPhone X or Touch ID on any IPhone 6 and above or your passcode.

Your card number and identity aren't shared with the retailer, and your actual card numbers aren't stored on your device or on Apple servers.

We take security very seriously and, provided you take appropriate care, we'll offer you the same protection against fraud when you use Apple Pay, as we do for your debit and credit cards.
