What is the difference between Contactless Apple Pay and Google Pay transactions and In App Apple Pay and Google Pay transactions?

The key difference is where the transaction takes place - either in store where you would tap your phone to a compatible contactless terminal, or within the merchant's own mobile app where you see Apple Pay and Google Pay as a payment option.

Are there fees for using Apple Pay and Google Pay?

Contactless

Fees apply to the following contactless transactions:

  • Apple Pay and Google Pay Euro transactions inside SEPA will incur a €0.01 transaction fee
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay Euro transactions outside SEPA have a charge of 1% of the transaction amount (minimum €0.25, maximum €6)
  • For Non Euro transactions, a charge of 1% of the transaction amount (minimum €0.25, maximum €6) and an Exchange Rate Transaction Fee (ERTF) of 1% of the transaction amount (minimum €0.25, maximum €6) applies

In App

Fees apply to the following in app transactions:

  • Apple Pay and Google Pay Euro transactions will incur a debit card transaction fee of €0.20
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay Non Euro transactions, a charge of 1% of the transaction amount (minimum €0.25, maximum €6) and an exchange rate transaction fee (ERTF) of 1% of the transaction amount (minimum €0.25, maximum €6) applies
